Name:	Diploma in Solution Development

Overview

To gain the Diploma in Solution Development, candidates must pass four one-hour written examinations, each of which leads to a certificate which has value in its own right. To convert their set of certificates into the Diploma, candidates then attend an interview with two ISEB examiners to confirm their technical, business and interpersonal competencies.

This qualification covers SFIA skills DBDS5 & 6, DESN5 & 6, DLMG5, 6 & 7, DTAN5, NTDS5 & 6, PROG5 and TEST5 & 6.

Core Modules

There are two core modules in the Diploma, which all candidates must attain. These modules may be gained in any order.

Specialist Modules

Candidates must choose one "knowledge-based" module and one "practitioner" module to complete their set of certificates. Which they choose will depend on their own background and preferences, what their organisation requires and the nature of their current roles. The available modules are:

Knowledge-based:

ISEB Foundation Certificate in Systems Development
This is a broad foundation certificate giving fundamental principles of requirements engineering, requirements modelling and solution design and delivery.
ISEB Intermediate Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture
This module is most suited to candidates who work with, or as, technical architects.
ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing
This module is examines the key role of testing in the development of IT systems.
ISEB Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management (V3)
This module introduces the basic principles and terminology of service management, It covers the terms, definitions, benefits, objectives and relationships within the IT service management lifecycle.

Practitioner:

ISEB Certificate in Business Analysis Essentials
This module is most suited to candidates who need to combine their technical roles with working alongside business analysts or system users.
ISEB Certificate in Systems Design Techniques
Many requirements are still delivered through bespoke solutions. This module is for people who have to define detailed design solutions which are subsequently handed to in-house or outsourced programmers and database developers.
ISEB Practitioner Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture
This module is particularly appropriate for people who wish to understand the layers of architecture and how they relate to each other. It also includes practical advice on improving the effectiveness of each architectural layer.
ISEB Certificate in Integrating Off-the-shelf Software Solutions
This module is particularly relevant to analysts who are selecting, customising and implementing off-the-shelf software package solutions.

Oral Examination

The oral examination lasts for approximately 50 minutes and the candidate is required to demonstrate that they can put the competencies gained in the written examinations into a coherent context. Each candidate must also demonstrate the interpersonal skills required to function effectively as a systems developer.
