MSP Foundation Training Course

The objectives of the MSP Foundation course are to give participants a broad understanding of the 'Managing Successful Programmes' (MSP) philosophy, and how it can be used to manage programmes effectively. This course is delivered using the latest fourth edition (2011) of the MSP manual and syllabus.

The course is interactive, with presentation sessions interspersed with group exercises and discussions. The course takes place over three days with the Foundation examination taken during the afternoon of day three.

Some evening consolidation and preparation work is required in order to gain maximum benefit from the course. Residential attendance is recommended.

Participants receive a comprehensive pre-course preparation pack, the OGC publication Managing Successful Programmes and detailed course slides and notes. In addition, participants will work through case study-based exercises to prepare them for the MSP Foundation exam.

The course is recommended for managers who have recently been given a programme role, for programme support staff, for specialists contributing to a programme, and for senior executives directing a programme.

The course is presented by FGI Training and Consultancy, specialist providers of IT service management, project management and programme management training and consultancy.

All FGI’s MSP trainers have undergone the rigorous assessment process administered by the APM Group on behalf of the Cabinet Office. They are practising programme managers with considerable experience in a wide range of industry sectors. The use of hybrid trainer-managers is of great benefit to participants and ensures that illustrations and anecdotes have up-to-date validity and that the training given, while remaining true to the syllabus, is also pragmatic.

Examinations

Participants can sit the MSP Foundation examination at the end of the third day of the course. This is a one hour, 70 question multiple-choice (although there are also an additional 5 trial questions on each paper), closed book examination testing the candidate's knowledge of MSP theory. Candidates need to achieve a score of at least 35 correct answers (50%) to pass.
