Solution Development Certifications

AssistKD offer a number of courses leading to certifications in solution development. These are shown below under the appropriate awarding body.

BCS

Foundation Level

The BCS Foundation level certifications cover a broad range of principles, approaches and techniques within a particular subject area. The examinations leading to the Foundation certifications, test knowledge and comprehension. This assessment approach is at level 2 within Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Domains. Each BCS Foundation certification is obtained by passing a multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions and lasting for one hour. Candidates are required to answer 26 or more questions correctly in order to pass the examination.

The BCS Foundation certifications contribute towards the BCS International Diploma in Solution Development and are also recognised certifications in their own right.

Foundation examinations for Solution Development include: Foundation in Systems Development and Foundation in Software Testing.

Practitioner Level

The BCS Practitioner certifications recognise the ability to apply analysis and modelling techniques within a specific subject area. The assessment approach is at levels 3/4 within Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Domains. The BCS Practitioner certifications contribute towards the BCS International Diploma in Solution Development and are also recognised certifications in their own right. 

The BCS Practitioner certifications test application and analysis and are assessed through open-book scenario-based examinations.

Practitioner level certifications include: Systems Development Essentials, Systems Modelling Techniques, Systems Design Techniques and Business Analysis Practice.

Diploma Level

The BCS International Diploma in Solution Development is obtained by passing four certification modules (one Foundation and three Practitioner) plus an oral examination conducted by two BCS oral examiners. During the oral examination, the examiners assess candidates on their solution development and interpersonal skills. This assessment approach is at levels 4/5 within Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Domains. 

BCS does not require any experience prior to taking the oral examination. However, the nature of the oral examination is such that candidates will need to draw on their experience in order to provide acceptable answers to the questions. An oral examination lasts for approximately 50 minutes. Candidate who pass the oral examination are awarded the BCS International Diploma in Solution Development.
