Online Learning FAQ's

Check the frequently asked questions below to see if we've answered your question there. If not, just send us an email at onlinelearning@assistkd.com and we'll get back to you!

How do the subscriptions work?

Our online learning products are purchased on a subscription basis. This means that you have unlimited access to the product for the length of time that you have purchased.

You can buy a 40 or 90-day subscription package. The 40-day subscriptions are aimed at users that can dedicate more hours per day to learning the course. The 90-day subscriptions therefore are aimed at users who have less time per day on the course to learn at a slower pace.

On average, there are around 30 hours of learning time in each course.

Ultimately, the subscription length that you go for depends on you and your learning style. If you find that you can learn quickly, then the 40-day option is for you. If you prefer to take your time and learn in a more thorough way, the 90-day option is the one to go for.

Once you have purchased an online learning course, it will be added to your account. You can then choose a commencement date to begin your course. Our subscriptions run from the commencement date until 40 or 90 concurrent days after that date.

How do I sit the exam?

This depends on the course that you have learnt:

The Foundation in Business Analysis, Foundation in Systems Development, Commercial Awareness, Foundation in Business Change and Foundation in IS Project Management examinations can be sat at your nearest Pearson Vue examination centre, and you can purchase an examiantion voucher at the same time as your course and book the exam at a time and location convenient to you.

The Foundation in Software Testing and Data Analysis examinations can also be sat at your nearest Pearson Vue examination centre. However, we do not currently sell vouchers for these courses, but they can be purchased independently from Pearson Vue.

If you have learnt a Practitioner course (Business Analysis Practice, Requirements Engineering, Modelling Business Processes or Systems Development Essentials using Agile) then you must sit your examination at one of AssistKD's examination sessions. Dates, prices and locations for these examinations can be found here and you can purchase your exam at the same time as your online learning course for a reduced fee.

Our Foundation in Agile course does not currently lead to an examination.

Is there audio included in the course?

All of our courses, apart from Foundation in Systems Development, contain comprehensive tutor audio to further explain the course content and to help our users who prefer to learn audibly.

In some courses, such as Foundation in Business in Business Analysis and Commercial Awareness, the audio will not play automatically, and is therefore completely optional. This is a conscious decision taken by us guided by the content of the syllabuses for these courses. The syllabus content for these courses covers a wide variety and broad range of topics but refrains from going into a great deal of detail about each area. This means that the audio is primarily there for learners who feel a certain area may need further explanation to properly understand it, or simply just want to learn more about the topic.

In some other courses, such as Business Analysis Practice and Requirements Engineering, the audio plays automatically and is coupled with video. This is because we believe that these courses require further explanation from our experienced tutors for users to fully understand and apply each section. The examinations for these courses are open book and focus on the participant's application of their knowledge on business scenarios and not solely on remembering the content of the syllabus. Our feedback from users indicated to us that audio really helped them understand and apply the concepts learnt to the scenarios. The audio is, of course, still optional and users can use a seek bar to skip to the end of sections where required.

Can I buy the course and then start the subscription at a different date?

Yes, you can. When you purchase a course, it will be added to your AssistKD account, but your subscription won't start automatically. When you are ready to begin learning, you simply log in to your account, go to your subscriptions, and click 'Activate' next to the course name.

Can I pause my subscription once it has started?

Yes, if you wish to pause your subscription once it has started, please let us know by emailing us at onlinelearning@assistkd.com with when you want your subscription to be paused and when you want it to be resumed. This is particularly useful if you know you will not be able to access the course for a few days or weeks.

Why would I choose online learning over a 'physical' course?

The decision whether to go for online learning or the more traditional training course is one which is entirely dependent upon your learning style, motivation and budget.

If you are someone who prefers to talk things over with our experienced course tutors, learn as a group and can take time off work for 2 or 3 days of training course, then AssistKD's physical courses are for you.

However, if you are someone who prefers to work at their own pace and in their own time, who prefers to learn in a flexible manner from different locations then online learning might be more appropriate for you. Online learning is a great way to structure your learning of a course around a busy lifestyle or a limited budget, dipping in to the course when and where you wish.

All online learning users have access to a dedicated email address which enables them to contact an experienced course tutor with any questions they may have about the course. We're aware that this is one of the key aspects that is lost from a more traditional course and are determined to retain the personal service that we have provided on our courses for many years.

How are the courses structured?

The online learning courses closely follow the structure of both our existing training courses and the syllabuses.

Each course is broken up into modules - a chunk of course content that is independent to the others. The modules within each course can vary from around 6 modules to 14 modules, dependant on how the course is structured.

Each module is then broken down into sections of content. These sections form the "chapters" of each module and are arranged logically to guide the learner through the course. Included in each module are multiple choice questions, which help the learner reinforce their knowledge of the content that they have just covered. In our courses that lead to written examinations, practice scenario questions are also included.

Please note however that our courses do vary in content and structure. For example, some courses feature pre-module tests. To find out more about the structure of your chosen course, head to the specific course page.

Are there questions in the course?

Yes - many! Each course contains multiple choice questions which you can use to reinforce your learning or gauge how much you know about a certain section of the content. Our courses that lead to written examinations also contain scenario based questions, similar to the ones that you will encounter in the real examination.

Several of Foundation courses also contain end of module tests which take the form of mini-tests. Most courses also contain a sample examination so that the learner can practice the examination before they go on to take it.

All of our questions are written by experienced BCS examiners. This enables users to get a good grip on what the style of questions are that they may face in the exam.

What happens if I have questions whilst on the course?

All online learning users have access to a dedicated email address which enables them to contact an experienced course tutor with any questions they may have about the course. We're aware that this is one of the key aspects that you lose from a more traditional course and are determined to retain the personal service that we have provided on our courses for many years.
